Wissenschaftliche Aufarbeitung des Nachlasses von Marion Dönhoff

Ausschreibung: Vergabe eines Doktorandenstipendiums


The Marion Dönhoff Foundation, in partnership with the University of Nottingham, invites applications for a full-time three year PhD studentship for research into Marion Countess Dönhoff´s work as a writer, journalist and political commentator.

The studentship will cover fees at Nottingham University and provide a monthly stipend of 1200 Euros for three years. It will be granted initially for one year and will be extended for another two years depending on the satisfactory progress of the PhD-project. The project will involve a substantial amount of archive work. The student will be expected to contribute to the cataloguing of the papers of Marion Countess Dönhoff.

Applicants should have an excellent Masters Degree in history or another relevant discipline. Experience in dealing with archival sources written in German, very good background knowledge in 20th century German and international history and excellent oral and written skills in German and English are essential. Research interests in media or gender history, in the relations between the Federal Republic and the GDR, Eastern Europe or the United States or in the memorialization of the 20th of July 1944 would be advantageous.

The deadline for the submission of the applications is Thursday, 25 September 2008, 4 pm. Interviews will take place in early October in Hamburg. The studentship will commence on 15 of October. The student will enroll as PhD-student at Nottingham University, but will be required to live in Hamburg for the first two years of the studentship.
